Defense
The Department of Defense (DoD) and its various agencies face unique challenges
in their acquisition and engineering programs, challenges which have resulted in
defense agencies working against rising costs and longer turnaround times, both
in the areas of new weapon systems development and maintenance of existing weapon
systems. Imaginestics has partnered with the Office of Secretary of Defense (OSD)
and agencies like the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) and Oklahoma City Air Logistics
Center (OC-ALC) to develop and implement ground-breaking, technologically advanced
systems to reduce acquisition cost, improve efficiencies, and ensure warfighter
readiness.
A sampling of our work with the defense industry includes the following:
IUID Marking for Legacy Parts: Imaginestics partnered with OC-ALC, Tinker
Airforce Base, under a CTMA (Commercial Technologies for Maintenance Activities)/
NCMS (National Center for Manufacturing Sciences) funded project to develop and
implement prototype of an IUID solution that utilized a semi-automated process to
create ECO’s for IUID marking. Benchmarking tests on the prototype achieved cost
savings of 15 to 1 and time savings of 80% over present IUID marking processes which
has been a major hurdle in achieving IUID marking targets established by DoD . Imaginestics
semi-automated process utilizes our proprietary VizStitch, VizXtract, and
VizSeek
search technologies to stitch together raster drawings, find nameplate images in
the drawings, and create ECOs with the updated IUID information.
Cost Advisory System (CAS): Imaginestics partnered with the Defense Logistics
Agency (DLA) and Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control (LMCO) to develop and
implement a prototype of a Should Cost Advisory system for investment cast parts
under a CTMA/NCMS funded project. The prototype when benchmarked by LMCO showed
over 82% correlation with actual cost for the cast parts and demonstrated potential
to save the DLA over 25% in procurement cost for cast parts. The system provides
real-time feedback to users on should cost for a part based on analysis of geometry
and production requirements, and is the only such commercially available system.
